Cajun Gator Port Huron
The first time the owner walked me through the dust that would become the Cajun Gator Port Huron, I could see his vision in my mind. "As if you're walking down Bourbon Street."
I loved researching and working with this concept. Not gimmicky, not cheesy, not in-your-face Mardi Gras. Our goal was for the guest to feel like they're in New Orleans, with the energy of zydeco, the hospitality of jazz, and the relaxed feel of the blues.
As a Designer, this was a great challenge. It's easy to go over-the-top, particularly with the flamboyancy of Bourbon Street. However, the Cajun Gator sits in an historic downtown district in the North. Too much New Orleans here would easily look and feel like the circus has parked at the museum... Fun for a weekend, but gaudy over time.
The trick was balancing the color and history of New Orleans with the color and history of Port Huron. Needing to stand out without looking out of place.
What an amazing project this turned out to be. Follow the journey with the pictures below.
